How to get to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
How best and fast can I reach to Bwindi?
Bwindi National Park Uganda can be reached either by road or air depending on the itinerary, time of stay, kind of safari (luxury, moderate or budget) and other factors of the visitor.
Bwindi impenetrable forest national park is located 530km away from Kampala Uganda’s capital and 576km from Entebbe Airport.
You can opt to hire a tour operator to make all necessary travel arrangements for your trip to avoid getting lost in a foreign land while trying to fix things by yourself.
What are the available modes of transport reaching to Bwindi Uganda?
There is no hard struggle when it comes to reaching to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park. There are available modes of transport that include both air transport using the airlines lines serving the airstrips here like aero link, eagle air and many others or rather road transport with moderately developed road system though a 4*4WD is recommended.
There available routings for the modes of transport serving this part of the country where Bwindi are expounded below.
From Queen Elizabeth national park via Kihihi to Buhoma (2-3 hours),
Kampala through Mbarara (6-8 hours),
Kampala-Kabale-Kanungu-Buhoma (4-5 hours),
Kampala-Ntungamo-Rukungiri-Kihihi-Buhoma (390km) and Kampala-Kabale-Nkuringo (4 hours).
For all those routes mentioned above, a 4×4 vehicle is required for the journey because of the kind of terrain, long distance, the rains and mud along the way.
If interested in taking the public local bus, you can board a bus from Kampala to the southern section of Bwindi via Mbarara, Kabale and Kisoro town.
Or rather opt for the one from Kampala to the northern Bwindi via Mbarara, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, and Kihihi to Butogota.
Note: While using these public buses, be alert and aware of thieves so keep your belongings safer near you or where you can see them at all times!!
There are two options of either flying from Entebbe or Kajjansi airfield to Kisoro. This flight lasts for about 1hr20mins. And those going to track from the southern part of Bwindi impenetrable forest national park can use this flight. This is mostly serviced by Aero link see link below.
For the ones tracking gorillas in the northern part of the park at Buhoma region, they can charter planes and land at Kayonza Airstrip. Kayonza Airstrip is more dominated by Fly Uganda.
